At Victory Park we recognise that the wellbeing of all students is a priority for all staff and at the core of all curriculum planning. As a community we are committed to developing resilient, confident and independent students, that are able to recognise and manage their emotions safely and effectively and contribute to the school community. We deliver a strong and diverse personal development programme for all students to access that supports this along with direct sessions on recognising and managing their own wellbeing.
Strengthening minds is programme run throughout the school that offers exciting, interactive programmes that help engage, teach and develop the mental wellbeing of our students. Each programmes supports a wealth of benefits that allows our students the chance to process and manage their emotions, both in and outside of school.
Zones of regulation is used in Primary and LEAP and support students develop a greater understanding of their feelings and develop safe and effective strategies to communicate and manage them within the school setting.
Some students require additional support, and we have an onsite mentor that is available for students to talk to on a regular basis. Some students are allocated a mentor within the staffing team that they can access whenever they need to, within the academy. As an academy we have a mindset that unless students wellbeing is supported and prioritised, they cannot access formalised learning and often start to disengage from the community and the academy.
We have a welfare team that supports student attendance and their reintegration into the academy. Many of these students have a history of poor attendance and have developed significant anxieties to attending an educational provision. Welfare visits and a blended bespoke curriculum are planned to support the student engage with the curriculum.
Through the academy we offer a range of personalised interventions, these include Lego therapy, social groups, modelled play sessions, speaking and listening groups, animal therapy and kick boxing.
We also refer to supporting services including CAMHS if we feel it is in the student’s best interest.
